V8 or All-Electric: How to Pick Between the 2026 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade IQ

The 2026 Cadillac Escalade lineup gives full-size SUV shoppers two very different ways to get the same Escalade presence. One uses a 6.2 L V8 engine. The other, the Escalade IQ, runs on electricity alone. Both seat seven, both offer Super Cruise as standard equipment and both carry the Escalade name with pride.

So how do you choose? The answer comes down to how you drive, where you refuel or recharge and what matters most on your daily routine. This guide compares the two side by side, from power and range to space, ride and towing, so you can find the Escalade that fits your life.

Performance and Power

The gas-powered Escalade uses a 6.2 L V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Drivers who want more can step up to the Escalade-V, which uses a 6.2 L supercharged V8 engine with 682 hp and 653 lb-ft of torque.

The Escalade IQ uses two electric drive units, one motor each, for all-wheel drive. In normal mode, it makes 680 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. Select Velocity Max, and output rises to 750 hp and 785 lb-ft. Electric motors deliver that torque the moment you press the pedal, so the IQ feels quick from a stop.

Range, Fuel and Charging

This is where your daily routine matters most. The V8 Escalade carries a 91 L fuel tank and fills up in minutes at any gas station. Its fuel economy is rated at 16.6 L/100 km in the city and 13.0 L/100 km on the highway.

The Escalade IQ sits on a battery pack with more than 200 kWh of usable energy, good for 748 km of range on a full charge. Home charging covers most daily driving:

  • Every IQ includes a Dual Level Charge Cord for 120-volt or 240-volt charging.
  • The Luxury and Sport trims use an 11.5 kW onboard charging module.
  • The Premium Luxury trim uses a 19.2 kW module, which adds approximately 58 km of range per hour of charging on a compatible 240-volt charger.

If you have a garage or driveway where you can charge, the IQ makes every morning start with a full battery. If you often drive long distances in areas with few chargers, the V8 Escalade keeps refuelling simple.

Towing and Capability

Both Escalades are built to pull. When properly equipped, the 2026 Escalade with its standard 6.2 L V8 tows up to 8,000 lbs (3,629 kg) in four-wheel-drive form. Heavy-duty trailering equipment comes standard, including a hitch platform, a 7-wire harness and a 7-way sealed connector.

The Escalade IQ is rated to tow up to 8,000 lbs (3,629 kg) as well. It also includes heavy-duty trailering equipment, an integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance and Hitch View as standard. Its Four-Wheel Steer system improves stability when trailering.

Space, Ride and Manoeuvrability

Both models seat seven. The V8 Escalade offers 722 L behind the third row, 2,064 L behind the second row and 3,412 L behind the front seats. The IQ offers 668 L, 1,957 L and 3,373 L in the same spots, plus an eTrunk with its own 110-volt outlet.

For ride quality, the V8 Escalade offers Magnetic Ride Control as standard on the Luxury trim and above, with Adaptive Air Ride Suspension available. The IQ comes standard with both Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. It also adds Four-Wheel Steer, which tightens the turning circle to 12.15 m, and Cadillac Arrival Mode, which lets the IQ move diagonally at low speeds when parking.

Which Escalade Is Right for You?

Choose the 2026 Escalade with the V8 if you drive long highway stretches, want fast refuelling anywhere or plan to tow often over long distances. It also gives you the widest choice of trims, from the Escalade to the 682 hp Escalade-V, and the most cargo space behind the third row.

Choose the 2026 Escalade IQ if you can charge at home and want the quiet, instant power of an electric drive. You get up to 750 hp, 748 km of range, Four-Wheel Steer and air suspension as standard. Both deliver seven seats, Super Cruise and the Escalade’s commanding presence.
