Super Cruise Comes Standard on the 2026 Cadillac CT5: What It Means for Highway Commuting

Long highway commutes can wear you down. Hours of steering, braking and watching the lane add up, especially in heavy traffic. On the 2026 Cadillac CT5, Super Cruise is standard equipment, and it changes how those drives feel.

Super Cruise is a hands-free driver assistance system for use on compatible roads. Both CT5 trims, Premium Luxury and Sport, include it as standard. Here is a friendly look at what Super Cruise does, how you use it and why it suits daily commuting so well.

What Is Super Cruise?

Super Cruise lets you drive with your hands off the wheel on compatible highways when conditions allow. It uses cameras, GPS, a high-precision map and sensors to steer the CT5 and keep it in its lane. It works together with Adaptive Cruise Control, which manages your speed and following distance.

Super Cruise is designed to keep the car in the true centre of the lane, within about 10 cm. It also slows down on its own for sharp curves. You still stay in charge the whole time, with your eyes on the road.

How You Turn It On

Using Super Cruise takes three simple steps:

  • Set Adaptive Cruise Control. The symbol in the instrument cluster turns green and shows your speed.
  • Wait for the white Super Cruise symbol. It appears when the system detects a compatible highway, clear lane markings and an attentive driver.
  • Press the Super Cruise button on the steering wheel. When the light bar on the wheel turns green, you can take your hands off.

To end a Super Cruise session, take the wheel and press the button again, or simply press the brake pedal. If you start steering on your own, the light bar pulses blue. Centre the car in the lane, and the light bar turns green again when Super Cruise is ready to steer.

It Keeps an Eye on You, Too

Super Cruise uses a Driver Attention System to confirm that your eyes are on the road before it lets you drive hands-free. The CT5 also includes Driver Attention Assist as standard, which can alert you if it detects that you are distracted or drowsy.

Super Cruise does not steer around objects, construction zones or safety situations. You take control to merge, exit the highway or stop for traffic lights and signs. Think of it as a capable assistant that handles long, steady stretches, with you in charge at every step.

Why It Suits Highway Commuting

Commuting is where Super Cruise shines. Once you merge onto a compatible highway, the system takes over the steady work of steering, holding speed and keeping a gap to the car ahead. Your hands get a break, and you arrive feeling less tired.

Super Cruise works on more than 640,000 km of compatible roads across Canada and the United States. Map data updates automatically through your connected services plan.

The rest of the CT5 makes the drive comfortable too. A 2.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is rated at 7.5 L/100 km on the highway. Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and Blind Zone Steering Assist are standard.

When to Drive It Yourself

Super Cruise is built for clear, steady highway driving. Do not use it in:

  • Construction zones
  • Areas with poor lane markings
  • Tunnels or on the highway shoulder
  • Slippery or bad weather, including rain, sleet, fog, ice or snow
  • Any time you are towing a trailer

Super Cruise is also unavailable when Teen Driver is active.

Staying Connected

Super Cruise relies on connected services to work. Each new CT5 includes three years of OnStar One with Super Cruise, after which an eligible paid plan keeps the system running. Map updates arrive automatically during your plan. If the map does not update within seven months, Super Cruise pauses until the update is complete.
